T he annual trade show is one of our all-time favourites to attend, and is the perfect chance to catch up on everything that’s been going on in the exciting AV, Lighting and Staging industry. Of course, it’s also ideal to check in with our lovely customers and meet some new faces looking to move their rental business to the cloud. Held for 3 days at the beautiful Olympia London venue, the show was a buzz of activity, illuminated by only the best and latest products on display.
Latest Products on Display
This year, the focus from exhibitors was definitely on giving attendees a fully hands-on experience. With so much to see during the show (there were impressive stands from over 180 exhibitors across two floors!) there was ample chance to try some of the products, from the latest sound systems and softwares, to lighting and staging technologies, with industry experts just nearby. Exhibitors included huge names like Bose Professional, Steeldeck, Doughty and Yamaha Pro Audio, all offering the chance to see their products up close. Chauvet were also showcasing their Maverick Storm 1 Wash.
Upstairs on the mezzanine, stands of the latest products continued, along with 5 theatres dedicated to hosting various seminar sessions throughout the show. These included a look at topics such as advancements in sound system designs and circus and aerial rigging kinematics. There was also the opportunity to gain experience with rigging equipment with the brand new Hands-On Rigging Area, giving both aspiring and seasoned riggers the chance to share their knowledge in a constructive environment.
PLASA London 2018 was also host to the Innovation Gallery and Awards, where a collection of products all nominated for a prestigious award were on display for visitors to learn more about. The ideal setting for getting to know specific products in a little more detail, the awards winners were announced on Monday 18th, with the Astera Titan Tube taking the gold prize for its rich features and versatility.
Last but not least, Robe stole the show with a performance of epic proportions! They showcased their new products in the most dramatic way possible - with live dance performances on the hour, every hour, illuminated by their lighting range. It was the perfect chance to launch and demonstrate their new SuperSpikie moving light, a larger version of their Spikie model, giving visitors to see how it works in a dynamic show environment.
Our Busy Stand J50
As for us, throughout all three days of the show it was all hands on deck! We were absolutely thrilled to show off our awesome brand new stand, built especially for the occasion by Red Peak Design. Visitors were able to stop at one of our colourful workstations for a live software demo with one of our friendly team members, or to check out our testimonial videos playing throughout the show, which included our most recent one filmed with Lightbulb Grip & Electric in New York. Of course, there were also tons of goody bags to give away, filled with our Current RMS merchandise!
It was awesome to catch up with our customers and to say hello to some new faces - it’s definitely the best bit of the show. We were able to demonstrate some of our brand new features from the past year, including Do a Deal, Choosing Accessories and Global Check-in. In case you missed them, Do a Deal allows users to apply a deal price straight to an Opportunity, or to any groups you’ve got set up on an Opportunity. Choosing Accessories is great for providing you with greater flexibility when choosing which items with accessories you’d like adding to a job. Global Check-in makes it easier to check-in kit from different jobs all at once - perfect for those busy mornings in the warehouse when multiple trucks are returning at once. Lucky stand visitors were also given the chance to see an exclusive sneak peek of our Automatic Costing and Purchasing modules, not yet released in Current. We gathered some all important user feedback and are hoping to have these brand new modules released in Current soon. Make sure you keep an eye out!
